We did get lost a bit which added to the miles.  Finally,  we did ride in some heat and humidity today, after the fog burned off. Today was very interesting.   In three days we have cycled from Washington to Richmond, covering the distance fought over for 4 years in the civil war. The highlights today were riding the hallowed ground where the union faced off against the confederacy near Fredericksburg.   About mid day,  we visited the Stonewall Jackson shrine.   They have the actual bed and building where he where he was treaters after being shot at Chancellorsville and eventually died of pneumonia. The roads were great and winds moderate.  It was an excellent day.

The ride was on the longer side, but we finally were below 2000' of climbing. We were pretty hungry coming out of Richmond and stopped at a local restaurant (I have a picture).  The owner was obviously not used to seeing cyclists in lycra.  He told us we would only be served after the regulars.  He took pitty on us and served us up the special in 5 minutes, fried pork chops,  green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy and sweet tea.  It was delicious. The afternoon was spent riding the James Peninsula.   We visited the Malvern Hills national battleground.   The battlefield was extremely interesting because of the way it was preserved and explained.  Truly a wonderful way to learn history.
