We had a very pleasant ride through the heart of the Confederacy today. We traversed civil was history and ended up in colonial America.
The ride was on the longer side, but we finally were below 2000' of climbing.
We were pretty hungry coming out of Richmond and stopped at a local restaurant (I have a picture). The owner was obviously not used to seeing cyclists in lycra. He told us we would only be served after the regulars. He took pitty on us and served us up the special in 5 minutes, fried pork chops, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy and sweet tea. It was delicious.
The afternoon was spent riding the James Peninsula. We visited the Malvern Hills national battleground. The battlefield was extremely interesting because of the way it was preserved and explained. Truly a wonderful way to learn history.
