Valley Forge (layover day)

Today was a day of rest, so what did I  do.....bicycle.   I  did a self guided biking tour of Valley Forge National Park.  It was a amazing the sense of history one gets viewing the actual sites and hearing the stories.   It adds great perspective to the events.

The park was wonderful.  I was struck by number of foreigners visiting the site on a holiday weekend.

The last week we have cycled about 400 miles through North Carolina.  The trip total is over 1800 miles. While not blogging and riding, we have had lots of fun.   For the past 5 days, we have been able to swim in the ocean after cycling (or on the route) which has been wonderful. Tomorrow is a big day.   We enter South Carolina and will cover nearly 90 miles.   Also, it has been decided that the ride will end 4 days early in Fort Lauderdale.   The Key's are still in  very fragile condition and if it is even possible to get to the end, it is doubtful it would be much fun. Suffolk, VA

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1979270457?share_unique_id=88 Today we cycled from Williamsburg to Suffolk,  Virginia.   Hard to belive that we have cycled nearly 300 miles since leaving Washington DC on Monday. Highlights from today were taking a ferryboat across the James River and miles of corn, soybeans and what we thing are peanuts.   Also worth mentioning is the fact that our 1000 feet plus days of climbing are behind us (yeah) and we are staying in an air conditioned bunk house tonight. We pretty much take things day to day out on the road, but we are keeping an eye on the destruction in the Florida Keys and wondering if we can make it to the original end of the ride.  Also, we are watching Jose and wondring about conditons on the outer banks when we get there Sunday.  Oh well, it is an adventure.

Riverton, CT

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1940336424?share_unique_id=46 Another perfect day cycling in northern Connecticut.   It was a Saturday,  so traffic was light.  We joined the local folks at a cafe for a filling breakfast 20 miles down the road.   It was a good thing, because there was lot of climbing at the end of the 55 mile day. Lots of pretty scenery and friendly folks.  We are 500 miles into the ride so we have a little more credibility when we describe what we are doing.  We are asked pretty often by people we encounter. We are on the 2nd map of the 7.  Our next map takes us into Pennsylvania. I will post a pictures of our route and some of  the scenery from today's ride.
